LED character dot matrix displays and LED electronic displays comprise tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of uniformly arranged semiconductor light-emitting diode pixels. Different materials can be used to manufacture LED pixels of varying colours. Red, green and yellow are widely employed, whilst blue and pure green are less common. The display method is controlled by the semiconductor light-emitting diodes.

LED display screens (LED panels) are screens that utilise light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to produce illumination. ED character dot matrix displays are screens that utilise the display method of controlling semiconductor light-emitting diodes to present various information such as text, graphics, images, animations, market data, video, and video signals.
LED displays are categorised into graphic displays and video displays, both composed of LED matrix blocks. Graphic displays can synchronise with computers to present Chinese characters, English text, and graphics; video displays, controlled by microcomputers, handle images, text, and video. stereoscopic animations, video streams, television broadcasts, VCD programmes, and live events. LED displays boast vivid colours and strong three-dimensional effects, appearing as still as oil paintings when static and as dynamic as motion pictures when active. They are extensively deployed in public spaces such as stations, docks, airports, shopping centres, hospitals, hotels, banks, securities markets, construction markets, auction houses, and industrial enterprise management facilities.
LED dot matrix displays achieve high density: up to 62,500 dots per square metre (P4) indoors. Excellent colour mixing capability utilises micro-processing of light-emitting components and the wave-particle duality of light, ensuring thorough blending of red, pure green, and blue light particles. LED dot matrix displays exhibit superior anti-static properties: production environments adhere to stringent standards, and product structures incorporate insulated designs. They also deliver robust reliability and performance: compared to SMD and LED lamps, LED dot matrix displays offer exceptional flatness and an aesthetically pleasing appearance. They feature a broad viewing angle of 140 degrees horizontally. Advanced characteristics include high magnetic permeability, with next-generation lattice technology leveraging the wafer's inherent high-purity properties and near-100% light transmission epoxy resin material to achieve permeability. LED character dot matrix displays offer high brightness; compared to discrete surface-mount types in 0603 or 0805 formats, LEDs reflect greater light flux. Technical features are covered by utility model patents. The 4×4 module format enables 1/4 scanning, further enhancing brightness.
LED character dot matrix displays can present variable numerals, characters, and graphic imagery. Suitable for both indoor and outdoor environments, they offer distinct advantages over projectors, video walls, and liquid crystal displays.
The widespread recognition and rapid advancement of LED character dot matrix displays are intrinsically linked to their inherent advantages. These benefits are summarised as: high brightness, low operating voltage, low power consumption, compact size, extended lifespan, and stable shock resistance. The development prospects for LEDs are exceptionally broad, progressing towards higher brightness, enhanced weather resistance, increased luminous density, improved luminous uniformity, greater reliability, and full-colour capabilities.
